New York Commercial Sublease Form- Temporary Event Space

by Fred Abramson on February 27, 2013

Do you need to rent space on a temporary basis? Big events such as TED, South by Southwest, Techcrunch and the New York Auto Show all have side events where much of the action really happens.

Many of my clients have businesses related to the event industry. They often need to sublease a space for a temporary period of time, often ten days. The agreement is often for a couple of hundred thousands of dollars. Often a restaurant will close down for a week and make a killing leasing their space out.

However, this arrangement can be tricky if you are not careful. If you are the business owner, you need to conduct your due diligence and be protected in case something happens.

This is New York Commercial Sublease Form is an agreement that will place you in the right direction. It is the start of the type of protection that you need.  I have used this agreement as a base for dozens of events, including those surrounding  South by Southwest and the Sundance Film Festival.

Be careful using an agreement like this. I highly suggest that you contact a lawyer such as myself before trying to do this yourself. What is especially important to be aware of the exact services each party requires. If you fail to spell it out, it could come back to nip you in the butt with unnecessary litigation at a later date.

For attorneys, this agreement is a good base.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 212-233-0666. Let me know how I can help.
